Sable Sunfare

Perfpal Holidays 1 September 2025 - 30 September 2025
Farewell To The Sun ☾

The Origins

Long before the Obsidian Valley became known for its eerie beauty, it was a place of war. The jagged rocks were remnants of a battle between the original Perfpal's ancient armies. Even after centuries had passed, the twilight never faded. The land itself seemed caught between day and night, a lingering scar of that war.  Sometimes Perfpals can still hear some of the ancient beasts echoing from the bottom of the sea.
As the leader of Karanova, Yasemin saw how the seasons shaped her people’s hearts. Summer brought energy and abundance, but it also brought restlessness and a sense of pride. She believed that strength wasn’t only about victory, but also knowing when to yield and reflect. The perpetual twilight of the Obsidian Valley inspired her. It symbolized the delicate balance between light and darkness. One could say it also represented the difference between holding on and letting go.
She founded Sable Sunfare to give her people a way to honor that balance. The festival would not be about mourning summer’s end but celebrating what had been gained.  This was a way to release what could no longer be carried into the colder months.
"Summer burns hot, but no flame lasts forever. Strength is knowing when to set it down."

The first festival was held in the heart of the Obsidian Valley under its eternal twilight. Yasemin invited all Perfpals of Karanova, regardless of rank or wealth, to gather on the black glassy sands. She arrived not in armor, but in casual dress. She proudly showed off her missing arm as a symbol of what she had let go of in the past.  The traditions below are the same things that Yasemin practiced all of those years ago.

What Is Sable Sunfare

Perfpals celebrate by having a giant festival on the beach.  This Holiday is not celebrated everywhere in the world. Perfpals who have moved away from Karanova travel back to the beaches to celebrate. Perfpals spend the entire day on the shore experiencing all of the different stalls, activities, and special little attractions that only come around this time of the year.

The entire shoreline glows with lanterns and glass orbs placed in the sand. At night, the light reflects across the smooth black shore. There are colorful streamers hung up everywhere along with fairy lights. Since it's always twilight here, the lighting is very important. Music fills the air, all traditional instruments reminiscent of ancient times. Drums, flutes, and stringed instruments can be heard.

Kids can be seen with little bioluminescent crowns on their heads.  This represents one last shining outlook upon summertime.  Adults wear shimmering veils upon their heads. This represents the acceptance of the darkness of fall.

Event schedule

The Set-Up (Before Dusk)
Families and travelers arrive at the black-sand beach, carrying lanterns and small offerings.
Vendors begin setting up stalls of their localized specialties.
Musicians warm up with soft string and flute melodies. They mimic the sound of waves.

The Lantern Procession (Dusk)
As people begin to arrive, Yasemin gives a brief speech about strength and resilience.
Perfpals form a winding procession along the shore, each holding a glowing lantern.
At the water’s edge, the lanterns are placed into painted boats, which drift slowly into the Abyssal Sea, carrying blessings for the coming season.

The Ash & Glass Ritual (Afternoon)
A great obsidian brazier is lit in the center of the beach.
Participants write memories, regrets, or burdens on ash paper and cast them into the flames.
When the ashes scatter into the wind, dancers step forward to mark the end of summer.

The Feast of Twilight (Late Afternoon)
Long communal tables are laid out on the sand.
Yasemin starts the toast before any Perfpal begins to dine.
Eating is accompanied by laughter, storytelling, and the sharing of summer memories.

The Sea Dance & Music (Late Evening)
Lines of dancers form, stepping in rhythm to handclaps and drumbeats, moving in circles to mimic waves.
Children run with their glowing crowns, joining the dance with squeals of delight.
Storytellers and shadow-puppet performers narrate the myths of the valley and Yasemin’s words.

 Twilight Wrestling (Near Midnight)
On softer sand, wrestlers ready themselves and grapple under lantern light.
Matches are friendly, but winners are honored for embodying Yasemin’s resilience.
The crowd cheers as the sea wind carries the sound down the coast.

The Closing Song (Midnight)
All music slows as the last boats drift out of sight.
Every Perfpal sings a Final Hymn of the Waves.
As the hymn ends, everyone raises their lanterns one final time, then snuffs the flames, leaving only the stars.
